About Our Club

Welcome to Pleasant Point Yacht Club - Christchurch

Our summer programme starts in early September and goes through until April, with a short winter race season.

Sailing times are governed by the tides, with races programmed on Saturdays and Sundays and some on Friday evenings.

You don’t have to race…

While we have a season long racing programme, it is not essential that you race. We welcome any one with a yacht who simply enjoys sailing and wants to get out on the water in the company of other yachts, under the watchful eye of our safety and coach boats.

Sailing at Pleasant Point Yacht Club is the fun way to enjoy this great kiwi sport...

At Pleasant Point Yacht Club, we cater for family sailing, with Junior, Youth and Senior dinghy sailing, exhilarating multi-hulls, and small to medium sized trailer yachts, all sailed on the sheltered waters of the Christchurch Estuary.

Why sailing?

Sailing is a healthy, non-contact, outdoors activity that everyone can enjoy.
It involves physical activity, discipline, independence, and teamwork, and if you wish, exciting competition.

A long history of sailing and a new beginning...

The Club was founded in 1921 at Pleasant Point Domain, now called South New Brighton Park, and in 1929 it shifted across the Avon River to a site beside the South New Brighton Bridge called Rat Island where, over the years, the Club established a significant facility.  After the September 2010 earthquake destroyed all the Club’s facilities and the land, the Club looked for a new location and in September 2013, established new facilities in South New Brighton Park ... back to where it all started!

If you are interested in getting into sailing, want to return to the sport you previously enjoyed or have a yacht and want to learn more about sailing, then PLEASANT POINT YACHT CLUB in South New Brighton Park is the Club for you.
